Dear Prayer Partners,
Happy New Year! This could be the year that Christ returns. May He find us faithful as we serve Him and share His salvation to those around us.
On the suggestion of our pastor, we traveled to the USA to be with our family over the holidays, traveling immediately after the seminary graduation. We’ve enjoyed our time with our kids Josiah & Nikki and Joy Anna & Fabio, and had precious moments being Papa and Nana to Jeremy (4), Lydia (2 and 1/2), Tabitha (15 months) and Kristina (8 months). We missed Jennifer, as she’s still in New Zealand until the end of this month. We’re anxious to see her and to hear more details of her adventures!
We spent a few days with our church in Austin, MN, and enjoyed sweet fellowship. Our church has had a missions interest in Brazil for 75 years, and now we’re excited about the missions team that is planning to come to work with us in June. We have planned eight days packed with ministry activities.
We arrived back in Brazil today. Please pray for us as we head into an extremely busy semester teaching at the Seminary. Jim will teach Introduction to Missions in a two-week module beginning on February 2, then two other classes on a weekly basis for the remainder of the semester. One of these will be a new class for him. Julie will teach three classes, a first for her, with one being a new subject. Please pray for us as it will be a challenging semester for us both.
Part of our heavy teaching load is due to plans for a short furlough during the second semester of the year. We’ll be visiting the churches that we were not able to report to in 2012. Please pray for God’s guidance as we set dates and look for plane tickets. There are various conferences and ministry opportunities taking place during the last week of June and first week of July in both Brazil and the USA of which we would love to be a part. We would like to know the Lord’s will about which of these to include in our schedule.
We appreciate your prayers as we get back into a routine in Brazil. We need wisdom and strength for the busy days ahead. We have a full house at the OASIS as some students have been staying there during our absence and will stay until classes resume. We brought back some items to make the apartments more useable and we’re still deciding how to best administrate the missionary housing. There are still some construction projects that need to be finished and we’re trusting that they will be completed by the middle of the year.
Thank you for your love and prayers, as we represent you and God’s mission in NE Brazil.
Your Servants for Christ in NE Brazil,
Jim & Julie Leonard
